Leather Welding Gloves Saudi Arabia – TIG, MIG and Heavy-Duty Welding Hand Protection
Welding is one of the most hand-hazardous operations in industrial environments. The combination of intense heat, molten metal spatter, UV radiation, and sharp metal edges means that inadequately protected hands face immediate and serious injury risk. RAF Safety supplies – and manufactures – leather welding gloves for welding operations across Saudi Arabia’s construction, oil and gas, fabrication, and manufacturing sectors. Our welding gloves are available from branches in Riyadh, Al Jubail, Jeddah, Dammam, and Abha with ready stock for immediate collection or fast delivery.
TIG Welding Gloves vs MIG Welding Gloves – Understanding the Difference
Not all welding gloves are the same – and using the wrong glove for the welding process is a common cause of hand injuries on Saudi industrial sites. The key distinction is between TIG and MIG/MAG applications:
- TIG Welding Gloves (Tungsten Inert Gas): TIG welding requires the welder to hold the tungsten electrode with precision while feeding filler wire with the other hand. This demands maximum dexterity and tactile sensitivity. TIG welding gloves are made from soft goat leather – thinner and more flexible than MIG gloves – to allow the welder to feel and control the arc precisely. RAF Safety supplies TIG welding gloves in short cuff (for standard bench and pipe welding) and long cuff (for overhead welding or forearm protection) variants. Both are manufactured in our own Pakistan facility from Grade A goat leather.
- MIG/MAG Welding Gloves: MIG and MAG welding processes produce significantly more heat and spatter than TIG welding. MIG welding gloves are therefore made from heavier split cowhide or reinforced leather, with longer cuffs, additional palm reinforcement, and rolled thumb and finger construction to resist burns from spatter. RAF Safety’s MIG welding gloves are available in red/white, red/black, and yellow variants – all manufactured to EN388 and CE marking standards.
Cow Split Leather vs Chrome Leather – Which Is Better?
Two primary leather types are used in welding glove manufacturing:
- Cow Split Leather: The underside of the cowhide after splitting. More durable and heat-resistant than full-grain leather; the most common material in MIG welding gloves. RAF Safety’s manufactured gloves use Grade A and A+ cow split leather with tightly packed grain structure that resists spatter penetration and extends glove life.
- Chrome-Tanned Leather: Tanned with chromium salts, which produces a softer, more supple leather suitable for TIG applications and light-duty welding. Chrome leather is also more water-resistant than vegetable-tanned alternatives, making it suitable for outdoor welding environments common on Saudi construction sites.
A+ vs A Grade Leather – What the Difference Means for Your Site
- A+ Grade: Premium cow split leather, tightly grained, with superior abrasion resistance and longer service life. Recommended for high-use applications and skilled welders who require consistent performance. Delivers lower cost-per-use over the glove’s lifespan despite higher unit cost.
- A Grade: Standard cow split leather offering good protection for general welding applications. Suitable for intermittent welding operations and situations where gloves are replaced frequently due to site loss or contamination policies.
EN388 Certification and CE Marking
All leather welding gloves from RAF Safety’s own brand carry EN388 certification covering abrasion resistance, blade cut resistance, tear resistance, and puncture resistance. Our gloves also carry CE marking under EU Regulation 2016/425, Category II. For Saudi Aramco, SABIC, and Royal Commission contractors in Al Jubail and Dammam who require documented PPE compliance, RAF Safety provides declarations of conformity and EN388 test certificates on request.
